Vercingetoix's MUGEN Battle Showcase!

 Vercingetorix's MUGEN Battle Showcase!

Hey folks, sorry for being inactive lately but as you may already know I'm easily distracted by other things. After seeing Dancing Guy's Comedy Cats skit, I feel that it's time to lighten things up here as well by giving you some good-natured entertainment of my own. Anyway, part of the reason that I have been inactive lately is that I came across a computer game called MUGEN.

Basically, MUGEN is an open-source fighting game engine that allows users to upload their own characters and stages created from scratch. That's right, if you have always wanted to see Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin duke it out, then it's possible here. As a fan of Deadliest Warrior, I was automatically hooked on this based on the concept alone, but the fact that MUGEN is based off of the solid system Street Fighter games in terms of playing style makes the game actually worthwhile to play.

The only drawbacks to MUGEN are that first of all each character must be downloaded and inserted into the character select manually. As you may expect, this takes up a good deal of time, especially considering that many rosters use hundreds of characters. Secondly, since MUGEN is based off of an open-source engine the plugins for sound do not work all the time; it definitely lacks the polish of a professionally-designed game. Third, since characters are created by many different users there is no possible way that they can all be balanced against one another.

All of that aside, I have been seriously impressed by the videos on youtube that showcase this creative game in action. With that in mind, grab some popcorn and prepare to watch some of my personal favorite fights:

Match 1: Sonic the Hedgehog vs. Duck Dodgers

Peter Griffin vs. Homer Simpson

Sora vs. Cloud Strife

 Super Mario vs. Bowser

Cartman vs. Buttercup (Powerpuff Girls)

Rey Mysterio vs. Cartman

The Joker vs. Ronald McDonald

Michael Jackson vs. Sephiroth

Link vs. Cloud Strife

Well, that's all folks but if you are interested in downloading MUGEN I can tell you that it's easier to download a full game with the characters installed and then add in the extra ones you want. Good Luck!
